Big Second Quarter Helps Football Cruise to Fifth Straight

WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Benedictine University football team cruised to their fifth consecutive victory, dispatching Maranatha 55-13 in a non-conference affair on Saturday.

Six different individuals scored touchdowns in the game as the Eagles accumulated over 600 yards and raced to a 42-7 lead at the half. The fun started after a three and out by Maranatha. Benedictine marched eight plays to score when Cyle Schultz connected with Greg Simms on an eight yard score with 9:00 to play in the first.

Artie Monaco stretched the lead to 14-0 with a 13-yard run with 3:32 to play in the first. Schultz found Blake Anders early in the second on a 37-yard strike to extend the lead to 21-0 and the rout was on as Benedictine scored on four consecutive possessions. Anders caught a pair of touchdowns in the game, adding another 37-yard score late in the first half.

Schultz completed 15 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns while also adding a rushing touchdown. Ryan Keener and Dan Durkin both saw time at the quarterback position with Keener scoring on a one-yard run late in the third. Anders reeled in five passes for 141 yards with two touchdowns while Colin Kanehl made four grabs for 83 yards. Eight different individuals made catches. Benedictine totaled 357 yards passing.

Anthony Mitchell carried 10 times for a career best 99 yards with a five-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Terry Miner ran the ball 12 times. Artie Monaco scored a pair of touchdowns in his second consecutive start. The Eagles rolled up 249 yards rushing in the contest and punted just once.

Trent Altieri, Jake Sakal, and Jarrett Lecas totaled seven tackles apiece to lead the defense, which allowed just 188 total yards, totaled four sacks, and recovered a fumble.

Benedictine (7-2) will close out the season at home on November 16 with a 1:00 p.m. game against Lakeland. Concordia Wisconsin claimed the NACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs with a win over Aurora earlier on Saturday.
