LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's soccer team secured the first win of the year in the home opener, taking down Rockford University.

• Abbie Graham opened the scoring less than five minutes into the contest, finishing a through ball from
Taylor Pokorny with a header into the goal
• Despite creating opportunities, Rockford stood tall defensively, not allowing another goal for almost 30 minutes
• A ball headed into the goal by a Rockford defender extended the margin to 2-0 in the 31st minute
• Graham scored on a breakaway at the 37 minute mark to push the lead to 3-0
• A pair of goals in the final minutes of the half made the score 5-0 at the half
• Benedictine added six goals in the second
FROM THE COACH
"It was nice to get the first win of 2016, after battling two tough opponents prior," said head coach
Mike Boland. "In the first half, the group showed tons of persistence and zero signs of frustration, as it took us a bit to get some end product with the amount we had the ball in the final third. We'll enjoy this tonight, then the focus is on Saint Mary's tomorrow."
